About this Event
What will I get from the Special Educational Needs & Disability Training (SEND) ?
This SEND Training is designed to increase confidence, competence, and knowledge to create inclusive environments, that deliver fun and inclusive activities for all abilities and needs. The training explores both SEND-focused delivery and being inclusive of SEND young people within your existing sport sessions.
Within this training, there will be opportunities to share your own experiences, and hear from peers and facilitators, contributing to a broader understanding of some of the barriers faced by those with SEND.
What will I learn?
SEND Training covers:
- The importance of SEND inclusivity through a sport and physical activity lens
- Barriers and challenges for SEND young people in accessing traditionally provided sport and physical activity
- Introduction to various disabilities, impairment groups and long-term health conditions – including physical disabilities; learning disabilities; neurodivergence; visual impairments; hearing impairments and other non-visible disabilities
- Practical skills, tools and ideas to adapt and develop inclusive practice in your own environment
Who is this Training for ?
Training is aimed at Community Clubs & Organisations within the West Midlands. We are encouraging HAF providers, Run Together and Parkrun Leaders, walking groups and anyone else working in community sport. This may include coaches, athletes, volunteers, administrators, officials or other relevant roles.
What can I expect?
This SEND Training will be run in person and will include:
- Information sharing from tutors - utilising a powerpoint presentation
- Open questions to the group - questions will be asked to the group, and you will be invited to share when and how you feel comfortable (this might include writing answers down, sharing to the room, or choosing not to share)
- Discussion with peers - this will include small group discussions, and we ask participants to get involved in discussions as they feel comfortable.
- Practical application - taking part in pratical activities as individuals or in a group.
