‘Health and Human Rights in Tanzania’

PROFILE OF SPEAKER:

Dr Marian Scena - a Medical Missionary of Mary Sister has spent her professional life in Tanzania and is currently programme doctor and coordinator of the Faraja Hospice and Palliative Care Programme in Singida, which is supported by the UCC-Cork Singida Partnership.

The UCC-Cork Singida Partnership is a long-standing charitable collaboration between University College Cork staff and Makiungu Hospital in Singida, Tanzania. UCC staff contribute financially through regular salary deductions. Established over 30 years ago, the partnership aims to support and improve healthcare services and population health in the Singida Region in Tanzania. While the initial focus of the project was on enhancing the quality of medical care provided by Makiungu Hospital, in recent years the focus has shifted to community health, including support for health centres and dispensaries in remote rural areas, support for the Faraja Hospice and Palliative Care Programme and for work addressing the problem of human trafficking.
