WHERE: 720 E 10600 S #4, Sandy, UT 84094
COST: $50 Walk in the door. $40 with pre-registration through emailed RSVP to [email protected] or by phone call to 801-403-6077 by June 10, 2026 . If enrolled in regular training ask your instructor about active student discounts.

Details: This workshop will focus on introducing a staple power principle of ancient Chinese Martial Arts. Often referred to as cun quan ("inch punch") principles. The idea is how to generate power immediately without the need for large amounts of space to pick up momentum. The 1" punch is a drill used to develop this attribute made famous to the public by Bruce Lee. In practical terms a human being can get to full acceleration with only 12" of distance and only 18 degrees of rotation. With that said, most struggle to make this a practical reality and consequently require excessive amounts of space and rotation to generate knockout power.

In this seminar we will learn to use simple but advanced concepts of pivot points to create a rippling affect through your movements that allows immediate acceleration to maximum velocity with a minimum of rotation and space. Having the ability to immediately generate power with minimum requirements of distance and rotation is a game changer for you as a martial artist. It unlocks the ability to execute more advanced combinations and tactics. Relaxed Power concept, soft hand leverage, associated pivot points, anchoring concepts, inertial engagement and other power drills will be referenced to help you learn and drill this power principle and make it a part of your skill set as a martial artist.

INSTRUCTORS: Taught by 5th Step Senior Instructor Kyle Whiteley
About the Instructor:
Taught by 5th Step Senior Instructor Kyle Whiteley who has over 25 dedicated years of martial arts training experience. Kyle is an instructor with an unwavering focus on practicality. Having trained for over 25 years in Wu Ji Quan Fa Gong Fu and promoted to the highest ranking of 5th Step under the late great Grandmaster Tom Garriga, Kyle also has training experience in several other combative programs through his professional experience including Modern Army Combatives Program (MACP), Utah POST Academy Defensive Tactics, Executive Protection Combatives as well as grappling, boxing and several other types of athletics that round out his martial arts experience.
Kyle has professional work and training experience of nearly 20 years combined as a Police Officer, Soldier, Personal Protection Specialist (Body Guard), and Armed Security Officer in roles that require knowledge and proficiency in use of force. He is able to draw from that experience combined with his extensive martial arts training experience to provide approaches that are fast and effective in the moment of crisis but also which consider the legal ramifications of self defense which are often overlooked or misrepresented by many self defense trainings.
Kyle uses an approach to instruction that allows people to improve and relate to what is taught even coming from a wide variety of backgrounds. Kyle has taught people new to all of it and people that are highly experienced in various disciplines of martial arts. Kyle has a passion for being a lifelong practitioner of the martial arts and shares his experience from that perspective rather than from a guru perspective.
Kyle as an instructor holds a philosophy that a teacher can only provide clear instruction, well organized drills, and productive feedback and after that all learning after that is self-learning. 10% of the process at most is from the teacher and 90% or more always has to come from the student. Kyle when teaching rejects the guru role but rather looks at it as being an experienced guide to a territory of combat that no one has ever fully conquered. His goal is to share effective and efficient approaches to solving extremely serious and consequential self defense scenarios.
