Gallery Particulier is proud to announce the opening of "Selected Weeds: Recent Works by Jessica Dalrymple" an exciting new exhibition that brings together the artistic and environmental insights of painter/horticulturist Jessica Dalrymple with the herbal expertise of Cheryl Boiko owner of Remedies Herb Shop. This unique collaboration will be celebrated at Remedies Herb Shop in Cobble Hill on October 18 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Selected Weeds delves into the ecological and aesthetic value of weeds—often misunderstood elements of the urban landscape. Dalrymple’s work inspired by her years working in industrial areas like Gowanus brings these resilient plants into focus through her intricate paintings scrolls and mixed media pieces. Her practice blends illustrative botanical painting with contemporary environmentalist themes exploring the "gray area" of weeds their ecological roles and their interaction with human-built environments.

"As someone who has worked in places like Gowanus for 25 years I’ve come to appreciate the beauty and resilience of weeds. I’ve seen meadows emerge from cracks in concrete" says Jessica Dalrymple. "This series was inspired by the concept of 'selective weeding' whereby horticulturists allow some “weeds” to remain in the landscape and gardens because they support wildlife and soil health. I hope my work prompts viewers to see value in these overlooked plants."

The exhibition will be hosted by Remedies Herb Shop a Brooklyn gem that combines the charm of an ancient apothecary with the elegance of modern design. The shop owned by certified herbalist and dietician Cheryl Boiko offers a wide range of herbal extracts lotions cordials and more many of which are made from Boiko’s own foraged materials. With its mission rooted in healing and natural remedies the shop is the perfect setting to showcase Dalrymple’s nature-inspired artwork many of which feature medicinal plants in the shop.

Gallery Particulier a nonprofit gallery dedicated to bringing art to the community through innovative and inclusive programming curated the exhibit. Dalrymple’s work aligns with the gallery’s mission of celebrating the intersection of art and environmental stewardship.

In addition to the opening Jessica Dalrymple will be leading special botanical drawing/workshops at Remedies Herb Shop where participants will explore the intersection of art and nature through hands-on instruction in botanical drawing.
