About this Event
Design doesn't live in one lane anymore. What we make moves across brands, spaces, products and people's trust.
That's why SEGD Chicago is excited to welcome Manuel Lima, author of The New Designer: Rejecting Myths, Embracing Change. In the book, Manuel argues that design has over-indexed on aesthetics and that the moment we're in demands something harder (and more useful): responsibility for impact across personal, cultural, and environmental dimensions. He's bringing questions like:
- What myths are we still designing under, perfection, deliverables, the "lone genius" and what changes when we let them go?
- In a world run by metrics, algorithms, and speed, how do we advocate for what's harder to measure: ethics, long-term impact, and real human complexity?
- If most things we design outlive their users, what does it mean to design for the full life cycle and treat the planet as a stakeholder, not an afterthought?
If your work has been asking bigger questions lately, come spend an evening with us - food and drinks on us.
How to get to venue:
Please enter through the main doors at 111 E. Wacker. Inside, you will take the escalators up to the Plaza floor and walk towards the back of the lobby. On the left hand side, you will see signage directing you to the Lecture Hall.
