About this Event

Join us for a day-long retreat exploring how our thoughts, actions, and intentions shape our lives.

Every action begins with a thought. From there, we speak and act—and those actions have consequences. This is the essence of karma: what we do matters.

Through meditation and gentle reflection, we can begin to see this process more clearly. Acting from a grounded, compassionate mind tends to bring clarity and connection. Acting from confusion or reactivity often leads to more difficulty.

The good news is that we have choice. Each moment offers an opportunity to pause, reconnect, and respond with greater awareness and care.

As Chögyam Trungpa wrote:
“It’s quite amazing that we manage to manufacture our own future confusion using our present experiences of hanging on to neurosis.”

This retreat is an invitation to slow down, step out of the busyness of daily life, and reconnect with your natural clarity and goodness. The day will include guided meditation, silent sitting and walking, and group discussion. All are welcome—no prior experience needed.

There will be a 90 minute break for lunch from 12:00 to 1:30. Feel free to bring a lunch - also there are also numerous restaurants nearby in Burbank.

ABOUT THE TEACHERS:

Laura Landau has taught classes in the Way of Shambhala series, Buddhist classes, Shambhala Art, co-directed the children’s program and for 4 years facilitated Friday morning meditation. She was a script reader, had a brief stint as a writer/producer, has a Masters in Transpersonal Psychology and worked as a poetry therapist.

Patrick Knisely has been meditating since 2007, when he first saw Pema Chodron’s interview with Bill Moyers on television. He has been a photographer, teacher, and speech-language pathologist. He lives in Los Angeles, but is also grateful for his Nebraska roots.
