The Billings Community Seed Library is hosting a Seed Saving Workshop where we will learn how to collect, save, and store heirloom vegetable and native plant seeds with Abi Saeed, Montana State University's Extension Horticulture Specialist. We'll discuss the plant life cycle, hybrids vs heirlooms, harvesting techniques, and germination tricks for the next growing season. Saving seeds from your garden is a great way to help you continue to have a bountiful harvest every year, and lets you save your favorite cultivars of flower, fruits ,and veggies. Join us for a morning of learning about saving seeds and stay till the end to pick up native wildflower seeds. Some of our native wildflowers need to be planted in the fall in order to germinate and are a great way to help support your local pollinators.
Abiya (Abi) Saeed is the Extension Horticulture Specialist at Montana State University. She has a background in entomology, pollinator conservation, and integrated pest management. She received her Master's degree in entomology at the University of Kentucky and is currently working on her PhD in Plant Sciences at Montana State University where she is doing research on urban pollinator conservation. Prior to Montana State University Extension, she has been a horticulture educator at Michigan State University Extension and Colorado State University Extension. Abi is also a recurring panelist on Montana PBS's weekly live call-in TV show: Montana Ag Live.
