About this Event
Please save the date! We’re excited to invite you to our next SEE(d) Artist Series program featuring artist Shirin Towfiq on Saturday, December 7, from 4 PM to 7 PM, at Clios, Oakland’s new literary and cultural hub. (Shirin is currently without a studio as she pursues her PhD at UC Santa Cruz.)
Join us for a chance to meet Shirin and learn about her art practice and the incredible projects she’s been developing. She will present a media showcase, followed by a conversation and Q&A moderated by Cari Borja, Ph.D., one of Clios' proprietors and a cultural anthropologist and professor at CCA.
Shirin Towfiq is a transdisciplinary artist of Iranian descent who works in textiles, photography, installation, and performance. Her art draws from her experiences as a second-generation immigrant, exploring themes such as the historiography of the Iranian Diaspora, cultural memory, family histories, legacies of trauma, transnational migration, archival silences, and translation.
We’ll also have a selection of artisan wines and holiday bites, along with a no-host bar featuring some of Clio’s signature cocktails. Shirin’s artworks will be available for purchase to enrich your collection. All ticket proceeds will support the artist's studio practice!
Good company and merriment await you in the spirit of belonging!
