About this Event
Join hearing-loss artist Noa Nishizawa for a workshop designed for people with hearing loss!
This playful, hands-on workshop is designed especially for people with hearing loss, offering new ways to experience music through sight, touch, and movement. Participants will explore rhythm, pitch, and dynamics by seeing and feeling musical patterns through the assistance of LED lights, screen-based animation, and colour-coded visual cues.
Participants will dive into hands-on instrument playing, interact with Noa on euphonium, and work together to create a short group performance by the end of the session. No musical experience required- just curiosity and a sense of play!
The session is welcoming, accessible, and empowering, creating a safe space to explore music beyond sound. Participants will leave with a sense of how sound can be experienced in visual and tactile ways and how people with hearing-loss too, can be active music-makers through alternative sensory pathways!
*This workshop is for people with hearing loss only. Carers and guardians are warmly welcome.
About the artist- Noa Nishizawa
Noa Nishizawa is a Manchester-based professional brass musician and a musician with profound hearing loss (Deaf in her right ear and profound loss in her left). Through her own lived experience of making music with hearing loss, she has developed creative ways of experiencing music beyond sound alone — using rhythm, movement, vibration and visual communication. Noa is passionate about making music more inclusive and welcoming for Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities, particularly within the brass band world. Her work explores how music can be seen, felt and shared by everyone, regardless of hearing ability.
