Securing Your Legacy is a free estate planning workshop and legal clinic designed to help YOU protect what matters most — your family, your home, and your future.

Everyone deserves the tools to protect their home, their wealth, and the legacy they leave behind.
"Health and Wealth" Estate Planning can help DC families keep homes in the family, protect generational wealth, and avoid preventable home loss.
Securing Your Legacy empowers DC residents with free “health and wealth” estate planning education, property check-ups, and connections to free legal services — helping you take steps today to protect your home and your family’s future.
Participants will learn about:
- Wills and other estate planning tools
- Powers of attorney and advance medical directives
- Beneficiary designations
- Protecting and transferring homes and other assets
- Strategies for preserving family wealth and preventing housing instability or home loss.
Eligible participants may also receive free legal help. During the event, participants can complete a property ownership check and legal intake. Those who qualify may be connected with participating nonprofit legal organizations for free legal representation after the workshop.
Securing Your Legacy is open to all DC residents, and homeownership is not required to participate. Income eligibility applies only to the free legal services offered through the program.

This event is hosted by DC Affordable Law Firm in partnership with DC’s Department of Insurance, Securities, and Banking (DISB) and with the support of DC's Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) and legal services partners from Legal Counsel for the Elderly, D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center, Christian Legal Aid of DC, and Legal Aid DC.

Northeast Neighborhood Library is accessible by public transportation, and we encourage attendees to consider carpooling or ride sharing. Neighborhood parking is limited, so please plan accordingly. You will receive additional details upon registration.
