Art In the Sacramento Poetry Center: Alison Carrillo will provide an overview of Eduardo Carrillo’s work and several uncatalogued works painted and given to friends in Sacramento. Artwork will be exhibited and catalogued for the first time.
Eduardo Carrillo [1937-1997] performed a role that so many first-generation Californians play: of translator, storyteller and holder of culture. Though he came of age when the Chicano movement reached its peak, his artistic response to the struggle was not rage but the reverse, a reverence for his Latino roots, a joy in the practice of his art and music, and a respect for the life force within everything. Shot on location in the desert and small pueblos of Baja, in the barrios of Los Angeles and in forests of Santa Cruz, Eduardo Carrillo: A Life of Engagement will weave the trail of this artist as he crosses borders and boundaries.
