"A House Call from an 18th Century Physician-Surgeon"
Doctor B. Wylde, an 18th century ship’s surgeon and physician, makes a house call to the Upper Wolfsnare House to share insights into colonial medicine, health, and hygiene, practicing the ancient Hippocratic theory of the four humors—as well as surgical practices for treating both routine and life-threatening injuries common aboard a military or pirate ship during battle. From pulling teeth to treating fevers to amputations, the good doctor will share the tools and techniques considered to be the height of medical technology and knowledge in mid-18th century colonial America.
The historic Upper Wolfsnare House will be open for self-guided tours from 10:00AM to 4:00PM. Donations are appreciated. In addition, there will be local history books for sale. All profits will benefit the Princess Anne County/Virginia Beach Historical Society.
