From battling addiction to navigating the complexities of relationships and the challenges of single fatherhood, their words will captivate and inspire. Learn more about each poet below and join us for an unforgettable night of spoken word.
- Gerard Robledo’s forthcoming chapbook, My Mother, the Butcher (Fall 2025), speaks through the lens of a Latinx single father raising a daughter and pushing against cultural and societal expectations and norms, while at the same time contending with his traumatic upbringing at the hands of an alcoholic single mother, only to realize that they are all flawed human beings.
- The work Matthew Tavares considers relationships, addiction, and fatherhood. What connects all of these is the theme of desire and what is gained and sacrificed in service or denial of desire.
Matthew’s Book is titled “In Search of Venusian Oceans”.
- Joshua Robbins’ book, “Eschatology in Crayon Wax” evokes a feeling of being caught between a fragile yearning to be transformed and a whirlwind of botched divinity. Rooted in the antiphonal tradition of early Christian liturgies, Robbins shows compassionate care for this our world of things, caught between what is and what should be.
