About this Event
Seasonal changes affect not only the world around us but also our physical body. Sometimes this causes particular conditions, such as allergies in the warmer months or colds and flu in the cooler months. As the plants grow and flourish or retreat and hibernate so do our bodies. If we learn to flow through the seasons using what nature offers us, to keep us happy and healthy we will become our best selves.
Plants grow at the time of year we need them most. This means we can use natural, fresh remedies through seasonal medicine. Spring tonics to detox the system from the winter stagnancy, summer sprays to cool us on hot days and to protect us from those little biting bugs while spending our days enjoying the sunshine, elixirs in autumn to get us ready for the cold months and supporting aids to protect us in the winter times.
In these three-hour workshops, we will concentrate on the season at hand, learning about how seasons affect our health and how we can aid our bodies through the use of simple plant medicine. Which plants can be used in that season and what specifically we can do to support our bodies during the period.
We will learn all about local wild herbs as well as simple kitchen herbs and spices, how we can use them through different herbal medicine-making techniques and food as medicine. At the end of the year, you will have a little herbal apothecary to support you through all the seasons and some seasonal recipes for the kitchen.
Tuesday 23.04.24
Spring: Clearing, Cleaning and Detoxing
Shaking off that winter fur, cleaning out that stagnant system, allergy support and simply doing a spring clean for our bodies.
We will be learning about allergy season, how to clear our body of winter toxins and how one can easily support the body to move out of winter and into the spring.
We will make a personalized herbal spring tonic which aids in detoxing the body, supporting allergy issues and enhancing the intake of vitamins and minerals.
The food as medicine recipe will involve learning how to create a wild pesto from local foraged herbs aiding in clearing out stagnancy.
Tuesday 04.06.24
Summer: Protection
Bites, stings, sunburns, overheating, cuts and scrapes. First aid is the theme for this workshop. Whether you are at a lake, or festival, walking in the forest or grilling in the park with friends. Your loved ones and people you may just have met are bound to experience one of the above.
We will learn how to protect ourselves in the heat of summer and when things happen while being outside.
We will be making a natural first aid product that can be taken everywhere and how simple plants that are all around can be used in “quick first aid”.
The food as medicine recipe will be a cooling summer drink, which you can take on all your summer trips.
Tuesday 01.10.24
Autumn: boosting and supporting with fire tonic
Getting a cold? Feel the flu coming on? The theme of this workshop is boosting your immune system when you’re feeling under the weather. It’s these sunny autumn days where we optimistically wear too few clothes that can be a real trouble. That combined with a summer full of hedonistic fun is bound to cause colds and flu. In this workshop, we will discuss local immune-boosting herbs, and how to avoid flu, and we will create our own immune-boosting fire tonic to give our systems that extra kick.
The food-as-medicine recipe will be an immune-boosting quick and easy soup.
Tuesday 12.11.24
Winter: uplifting and digesting
Oh! Dark cold days, stuck in heated apartments, with little excitement or respite from the outside world. Often we turn to heavy foods over the festive season, for comfort as much as tradition. In this workshop we will be concentrating on how to protect and uplift us during the bitter winter months, so that we can best enjoy the quiet cosy days with the help of some digestive tonics aids. During the workshop we will make some digestive bitters/tonics to help with the festive season, and uplift our health, generally.
The food-as-medicine recipe will be a little fun for the festive season and a surprise for you all.
Cost:
240€ for all four workshops. To book the whole series contact me directly: [email protected].
65€ per workshop. It is possible to do one workshop and you will learn a lot, it is suggested to do all four as content in one may merge with the other.
