We’re looking for keen adult rockpoolers to help us explore the rocky shore and record the species found there.
About this Event

Join our team of local volunteers to carry out a rocky shore survey as part of a citizen science project called Shoresearch, where we record the rockpool species that we find along the Tyne to Tees coast. This is part of a national survey being carried out by Wildlife Trusts across the UK.

You do not need to have any experience of survey work or of rocky shore ecology as there will be experts on hand to assist you.  Both complete beginners and people already trained in the Shoresearch methods are very welcome. To find out more about Shoresearch please click here.

Durham Wildlife Trust will provide all the sampling kit, survey sheets and identification guides.

Booking is essential!

Please wear clothing suitable for all weather conditions.  We will be out for up to 3 hours and conditions can change, and be very different out on the shore than inland. We will break for refreshments during the survey, and there are toilet facilities nearby.

The rocky shore can be very slippery in places, and we will be walking through shallow pools so wellies or boots with very good grips are strongly advised. This activity is not suitable for people with limited mobility.

People aged 16-18 years are welcome, however, they must be accompanied by an adult.

If rainfall or extreme weather conditions are forecast this event will be cancelled.

This event is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and is part of the SeaScapes ‘Intertidal Interactive’ Project. To find out more please visit www.exploreseascapes.co.uk
