About this Event

’S e camanachd aon de na spòrsan as sine ann an Alba, a’ dol air ais còrr is 2,000 bliadhna. Ach càit’ a bheil Dùn Èideann a’ tighinn a-steach don sgeul? Agus ciamar a tha an spòrs cho ceangailte ri Gàidhlig agus beatha na Gàidhealtachd?

Shinty is one of Scotland’s oldest sports, with origins dating back over 2,000 years. But where does Edinburgh fit into the story? And how has the sport become so connected to Gaelic and Highland life?

Bidh Ùisdean MacIllInnein còmhla rinn Dihaoine 7 Samhain, a' toirt thugainn sgeulachdan mu chamanachd ann an Alba agus sgeulachdan bho na làithean aige fhèin ann an camanachd, bho bhith a’ cluich na leanabh ann an Caol, An Gearasdan, gu còrr is 40 bliadhna mar chraoladair-spòrs leis a’ BhBC.

Hugh Dan MacLennan joins us on Friday 7 November to share stories of shinty in Scotland and anecdotes from his own shinty experiences, from playing as a child in Caol, Fort William, to his over 40-year-long career as a sports broadcaster with the BBC.

Thig tràth airson biadh beag fhaighinn, stuth tasglainn camanachd fhaicinn bho Leabharlann Nàiseanta na h-Alba, còmhradh Gàidhlig, agus cothrom abairt no dhà ionnsachadh mu chamanachd sa Ghàidhlig!

Pop down to the venue early to grab a refreshment, watch archive shinty footage provided by the National Library of Scotland, a Gaelic chat, and a chance to learn a shinty phrase or two in Gaelic!
