One of the most creatively versatile performers of his generation, Seán has been hailed by Irish fiddle legend Liz Carroll as “One powerhouse of a fiddler.” Seán holds the rare distinction of being both a U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion and a U.S. National Champion in Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig) Song—a testament to his deep mastery of the Scottish tradition in both instrumental and vocal forms. He is also an award-winning Irish fiddler and harpist, bringing a rare fusion of technical brilliance and heartfelt expression to every performance. A graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in Violin Performance, Seán made his classical solo debut in 2012 with the Virginia Symphony performing Mozart’s 5th Violin Concerto, and was named a 2019 Artist in Residence at the prestigious Strathmore Music Center. An educator in demand, Seán has served as an Adjunct Instructor at American University, and been on faculty at some of the premier traditional music programs in North America, such as Acadia Traditional School of Music and Arts, Boxwood Music Festival, Upper Potomac Fiddle Retreat, and Fiddle Hell Festival. He has performed in Scotland, Ireland, South America, Germany and at prestigious venues in the U.S such as the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C and Strathmore Music Center.
Beth Patterson was born in Lafayette, Louisiana. A multi—instrumentalist, Patterson is foremost a player of the eight- and ten-stringed Irish bouzoukis (adaptations of a traditional Greek instrument). Known for her razor wit and musical versatility, her performances are chock-full of drive, savage energy, and passion, laced with humor and rapport with her listeners, dishing out an eclectic repertoire of original and traditional songs. She integrates her quirky, progressive sound with Celtic music and other ethnic styles, resulting in her own sound she dubs “SWAP” (Songwriter/World/Acoustic/Progressive).
Beth studied traditional Irish music and ethnomusicology at University College Cork. She has released nine solo CDs and has received airplay in every continent (Antarctica not withstanding), including NPR's Thistle and Shamrock, RTÉ's Raidió na Gaeltacha, and BBC's Radio nan Gàidheal. She has appeared on over two hundred recordings. Soundtrack appearances include the motion picture The One-Eyed King (starring William Baldwin and Armand Assante), Mike Judge's Extract, and in the choir on "The Rocky Road to Dublin" in Sinners. Film appearances include Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. She’s performed in over twenty countries across five continents. Over a hundred of her compositions and co-writes have been recorded, either by her or by various artists across the globe. She completed a bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy from Loyola University, New Orleans. In addition to solo gigs, Beth also performs in ZoüKeys (a prog/jazz/Celtic/roots mashup duo with her husband, acclaimed pianist Josh Paxton), Celtic fiddler superstar Seán Heely.
