About this Event
Step into a dynamic convergence of Caribbean and African Diaspora ritual arts. Witness the African Cosmogram come alive in Brooklyn—reserve your seat now.
On Friday, January 17th, from 6:00–8:30 PM, Blue Mango Arts and Jalopy Theatre & School of Music present Se7en Paintings + Libation at 315 Columbia Street, Brooklyn. This event launches a special Fundraising Series and represents a meaningful co-curated production between two organizations committed to cultural continuity, diversity, and inclusion.
This evening is an intentional act of restoration—centering ritual practice, ancestral knowledge, and the cultural memory we carry. The convergence of artistic practice and communal wellbeing is not symbolic; it is transformative. It brings us back to what shapes us, heals us, and holds us together.
The experience begins inside Hoyes’ spiritually charged installation with a traditional libation ceremony. Se7en Paintings + Libation invokes the African Cosmogram—the through-line connecting Caribbean and African Diaspora ritual practices to a shared African root. This becomes the grounding force of the evening.
Each painting is reimagined as a living tableau through ritual dance, drumming, and storytelling. Hoyes’ bold, colorful imagery lifts from the canvas and becomes a sweeping performance of history, resilience, and ancestral presence. The work honors the African pantheon of spirits—a constellation of forces shaping cosmology across the continent and throughout the Diaspora.
The evening concludes with a conversation with Bernard Hoyes, who shares the cultural and spiritual narratives that animate his practice.
Se7en Paintings + Libation opens Blue Mango Arts’ Fundraising Series—an entry point into ancestral homage, cultural retention, and the living traditions that define our collective heritage.
There is still so much for us to reclaim within Caribbean American and African Diaspora cultural arts. Let us gather side by side, honoring the threads that bind us across generations and across the Diaspora.
Join us for an evening of wall-to-wall culture, art, and community.
Proceeds support Blue Mango Arts and the Jalopy presentation of Se7en Paintings. Additionally, 30% of funds raised will support Hampton School in Jamaica for Hurricane Melissa Relief.
