SDA Winners Walk: Sheffield University City Campus
About this Event
The University of Sheffield campus comprises more than 430 buildings stretching from the city centre to the western suburbs. Since the University was granted its royal charter in May 1905, the city campus has steadily expanded and now includes more than half a million square meters of floor space, making a substantial contribution to the architecture and urban environment of Sheffield. During the development of the campus and the refurbishment of much of the estate, the University has made many submissions to the Sheffield Design Awards.
Our much missed friend and founding trustee of the Sheffield Design Awards, Jim Monach, had the idea to offer a tour of the award winners within the Sheffield University Campus. It is to his esteemed memory that we dedicate this event.
The Tour
Beginning at the main entrance to The Wave building at 4pm, we will meander downhill through the campus visiting each of the eight Sheffield Design Award winning projects. We will also visit a few other notable examples of the University’s architectural contributions along the route. The tour will conclude with a drink at the Bath Hotel pub on Victoria Street at 6pm.
A google map of the tour route can be viewed here. (Yellow markers indicate SDA award winning buildings, blue markers are additional buildings of note).
