Join us on International Sculpture Day to celebrate the installation of “Mr. Big Beetle Finds His Way”, which is being relocated from Meadowbrook Park to its new permanent home in front of the Anita Purves Nature Center. We will begin with words from the artist Janet Austin, who has graciously donated her sculpture to the Urbana Park District. Cookies and lemonade will be provided while supplies last.
Following the ribbon cutting, you can join a guided hike in Busey Woods with our Interpretive Naturalist, who will reveal the history and impacts of the very real beetle from which this sculpture was inspired: the emerald ash borer (EAB). The hike will cover approximately 1/3-mile of boardwalk trail and will last from about 12-1pm.
Call 217-384-4062 with questions (ask for Savannah). No registration required. All is free, and all are welcome.
