Join us in this script writing workshop as we delve into the art of powerful storytelling, explore effective narrative outlining using various tools, and master the nuances of script formatting. Uncover the secrets behind successful Hollywood screenplays as we dissect them to understand what makes them tick.
Guiding us through this creative journey is our esteemed host, Ade Dina, a seasoned scriptwriter with an impressive portfolio spanning short films, television, and feature scripts. Ade will intricately analyze his own past works, sharing insights on how to craft a captivating story and offering valuable practices for aspiring storytellers.
FULL SCHEDULE
June 9th — Week One: Form and Character
In our first session, we will focus on building strong, believable characters and understanding the foundations of story form. Students will explore character development, emotional motivation, objectives, relationships, and how character drives narrative. By the end of the class, writers will begin shaping the core identity and emotional world of their scripts.
June 16th — Week Two: Dialogue
This week centers on writing authentic, engaging dialogue that reveals character, tension, and story. We will study subtext, rhythm, pacing, and how to make conversations feel natural while still moving the plot forward. Students will participate in dialogue exercises and scene work designed to strengthen their voice as writers.
June 23rd — Week Three: Script Structure
During Week Three, we will break down screenplay structure and story architecture. Writers will learn how to outline scenes, build compelling story arcs, strengthen pacing, and understand the flow of beginning, middle, and end. We will also analyze examples from successful scripts to understand what makes a screenplay effective and emotionally impactful.
June 30th — Week Four: Bring It All Together
In our final week, students will combine everything learned throughout the course into a cohesive script foundation. We will focus on revisions, refining scenes, strengthening character consistency, and preparing scripts for continued development. This session will also include feedback, collaboration, and encouragement for the next steps in each writer’s creative journey.
