SCREENPRINT WORKSHOP | X-MAS EDITION with Luísa RamiresIn this Christmas Special workshop we will be exploring a form of monoprint using the technique of screenprinting. You’ll be able to bring back home a personalized Christmas ornament printed by yourself. Luísa Ramires invites you to experiment and get creative with silkscreen while answering to all questions you might have regarding the technique!
Screen printing first developed from the stencil technique, which is credited as early as the prehistoric period. It uses a mesh and ink-block techniques to print. The range of printing techniques of screenprinting on textiles is very broad and multicultural. There are multiple methods and range of techniques related to the screen printing: the wooden blocks (created in China), batik (from Indonesia) or katazome (from Japan). The technique that we use right now comes from this latter one and is widely used by the fashion industry and not only! Nowadays, the screenprinting is used to create labels, posters, stencil graffiti, t-shirts, etc. It became one the preferred technique to create multiples from artists in order to reach higher audiences.
This workshop will have a historical and clarification component, where we will talk about the technique, several ways of doing it as well as the practical component, where we will explore a monoprint technique using textile ink and oil pastels, combining painting and drawing. There isn’t any requirement for previous knowledge.

» ARTIST | LUÍSA RAMIRES - Luísa Ramires was born in Coimbra in 1994, and currently lives and works in Lisbon, Portugal. She has obtained the Bachelor of Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon and the MA in Art Markets in ISCTE, Lisbon. Utilizes artistic mediums such as drawing, digital manipulation and silkscreen. The artist has shown her work in places such as in Casa das Histórias in Cascais, National Museum Machado de Castro in Coimbra, National Museum of Misericórdia in Viseu, and also in other countries such as Spain, Israel, France, Denmark or New Zealand.
