About this Event
Christmas Day, 1974. Australia awoke to the news that the northern capital of Darwin had been devastated by the fierce tropical Cyclone Tracy, which left dozens of people dead and thousands more traumatised and homeless. Many never saw it coming and many survivors were never the same again.
To commemorate 50 years since Cyclone Tracy shocked Australia, and the world, the ABC looks back at the event, the survivors and their stories, with a one-hour documentary event, called ‘Tracy’. Using firsthand accounts from those who survived and digging deep into the ABC’s Archives for the incredible footage of the day, ‘Tracy’ tells the story of one of the most powerful moments in Australia’s history, and how Darwin still stands strong 50 years later.
MAGNT has partnered with the ABC to present the world premiere of this one hour documentary which will include a live Q and A session with survivors and local Darwinites.
