About this Event
Wastesmith's micro community cinema seats 15 people and is dedicated to showing the most interesting and inspiring environmental documentaries to small audiences. Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start, with space to share reflections on the film afterwards.
This screening of The Nettle Dress is an intimate opportunity to see this stunning documentary. After the death of his beloved wife, textile artist Allan Brown embarks on a seven-year endeavor to weave a hand-spun dress from stinging nettles foraged in the woods surrounding his home. A labour of love in the truest sense, The Nettle Dress is a modern-day fairytale and hymn to the healing power of nature and slow craft. It’s one story representing a huge groundswell of people rediscovering the joys of making.
Actor Mark Rylance called the film, “Exquisite and inspiring, beautiful and helpful for anyone suffering loss or grief”.
As a small community cinema, the space and lay out of the seating is spacious and flexible. The space has a range of chairs that you can move to a position where you're comfortable. Uniquely there will be space during the screening to set the levels of light and volume to the preference of the audience at that screening. Hot drinks and snacks will be available during the evening as part of the ticket price.
The programme for this community cinema is guided by the community who come and watch the films. We look forward to hearing your suggestions for films to show in the future.
