About this Event
The Culpeper Family invites you out of the cold, and into the warm to enjoy a new series of unique documentary film screenings across our pubs, grounded in our 2026 guiding principle of Common Ground.
As the world feels increasingly divided, our goal is to bring people together through the magic of great hospitality, shared experience, inspiration and open conversation, exploring how we can shoulder our environmental impact collectively while nurturing unity between land, producers and communities.
Each screening will centre on a documentary that tells powerful stories about our land, wildlife, food systems and the people who dedicate their lives to them. Screenings will be accompanied by seasonal (of course) food and drink that reflects the themes of each film β from seasonal snacks to bespoke sit-down menus. After each screening, guests are invited to stay for a short panel discussion with an exciting lineup of filmmakers, farmers and community voices connected to the stories on screen.
Our monthly series continues with at The Duke Organic in Islington. Guests will arrive from 5.30pm to enjoy a welcome drink and organic snacks before the film, followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with our head chef Peter and other members of the UK's fishing community.
Ticket holders can enjoy a special film-inspired set menu (all fish, of course!) available to ticket holders, Β£25 for 2 courses. Please book in advance via our website to guarantee a table.
Eat, drink, meet new people and leave nourished and inspired.
Β£1 from every ticket sold will be donated to Ethical Land, our CIC supporting urban farms, young regenerative farmers and rewilding projects across the UK.
Tanakogoro - A Culinary Portrait, 2021 (run time 32m)
When Japanese chef Yoshinori Ishii is dismayed by the quality of fish in London, he takes it upon himself to investigate why. Through skill, ethics and passion, he sparks a fish revolution in the United Kingdom.
This story comes to us through our friends at Kernowsashimi, who supply us with amazing, line caught fish from small fishing boats in Cornwall. Over the years, Ishii-san has visited Kernowsashimi on numerous occasions, gradually teaching local fishermen the traditional Ikejime method of killing fish with a wire through the spinal nerve.
