In a Northern Italian city during World War I, Dr. Stefano Zorzi dedicates his efforts to treating soldiers and combating self-inflicted injuries among those seeking exemption from combat. His close friend, Dr. Giulio Farradi, opposes the war and clandestinely assists soldiers in evading the front lines. Both are drawn to Anna, a resolute nurse working alongside them. As the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic emerges, their professional and personal lives intertwine, leading to profound moral and emotional challenges.
