About this Event
Please join us on April 17th from 6 - 8pm to view In Lorton's Darkroom.
Set in Washington, DC, at the dawn of mass incarceration, In Lorton’s Darkroom explores the intersection of fine arts photography and the criminal justice system inside Lorton Pr*son, where cameras were banned, arts programming was contested, and brutality was an unspoken rule. As overcrowding intensifies, a group of incarcerated men are given access to a classroom and a darkroom that transforms their lives.
Through photography, they forge community, confront their pasts, and find beauty in a place designed to strip it away.
Shot over 30 years, the film follows their creative journeys from inside Pr*son walls to the fragile promise of stability on the outside. Both personal and profound, it is a story of art as resistance, rehabilitation, and radical human connection.
