About this Event

We are thrilled to welcome artists Alison Scott and Rachel McBrinn for screening of After Glass, followed by a conversation hosted by Anne Daffertshofer, the SABG Art and Cultural Programmes Curator.

After Glass was made following a period of research and development with St Andrews Botanic Garden throughout 2024, where they have been artists in residence.

A key focus of this film and the artists research is the recent decommissioning of St Andrews Botanic Gardens glasshouses, and a move away from the ideologies and histories these structures represent. In the work, the figure of ‘the glasshouse’ becomes a prism that brings intersecting legacies of patriarchy and imperialism into focus. Working across moving-image, writing, and with a focus on archival materials, the work addresses the politics of botanical display, maintenance and reproduction.

After Glass was shown by the Travelling Gallery, and toured to arts venues, community centres, high streets and schools across Scotland including in Angus, Aberdeen, St Andrews, Edinburgh & Midlothian, Orkney and the Highlands. The exhibition also included a new text in response to Alison and Rachel’s work by writer Hussein Mitha.

To increase accessibility, we have chosen a sliding scale for our ticket prices. If you can afford a full-price ticket, and would like to support others to attend, please choose an upper-tier "pay it forward" ticket. If you would like to attend, but affording a ticket is a barrier, please contact Anne ([email protected]) to register for a free of charge ticket. All donations and ticket sales are essential in allowing us to continue offering events such as these - we're grateful for all our supporters who attend our events and are advocates for our work.
