About this Event
This isn’t about making something perfect, it’s about finally sitting down to capture the little moments you’ve been meaning to hold onto. The receipts, photos, random scraps, and “I’ll deal with this later” bits? This is your moment.
We’ll start with a simple, guided intro to junk journaling and how to make a see through window in your journal, so you can get unstuck and inspired (yes, even if you’ve never done this before). From there, it’s all about creating at your own pace; chatting, sharing, and building out pages that feel like you.
Expect a table full of playful, spring-inspired pieces to spark ideas, but more importantly, expect:
✨ A creative reset
✨ Easy conversation while your hands stay busy
✨ That satisfying feeling of “I actually made time for this”
Come solo or with a friend. Stay in your own lane or swap ideas with your table.
No rules, no pressure. Just scrap, yap, and make something meaningful.
Materials Provided:
- 3 sticker sheets
- 3 pages of ephemera
- A build your own scrap bag table
- The provided stickers and scrap tables will be loosely Spring Time themed with Windows, Florals, Bows, Buttons, and Fruit!
Recommended Items to Bring:
- Journal (a small number will be available for purchase)
- Preferred tools (favorite pens, markers, tape, photo printers, scissors, paper cutter, ruler, etc.)
- There are no rules in junk journaling - if you can flatten it, we can figure out how to get it into your journal!
About the Instructor:
Emily is the creator behind @emily_made_universe, where she shares her love of junk journaling, collage, and all things paper magic. She has been crafting since childhood, turning what began as cutting up magazines into a creative practice rooted in storytelling through scraps. She is also the founder of @junk.this.universe, a small business designing junk journal supplies and a monthly zine meant to be opened, read, and ripped into your art. Emily loves bringing people together through creativity, and is excited to create a welcoming space for both beginners and experienced journalers to explore, experiment, and make something uniquely their own.
About Sunset Commons:
Carmen and Steven started Sunset Commons to provide a space to connect and build community through arts and craft activities led by talented local artists. Inspired by a love for creativity and a desire to foster connection in the Sunset District, we envisioned a “third space” where neighbors can gather, unwind, and form meaningful relationships. Our mission is to empower self-expression, boost confidence, and offer an inclusive haven for everyone, from introverts seeking a calm environment to those enjoying health-focused traditional teas. Sunset Commons is not just a business - it’s our way of enriching the community we love and to the city we both grew up in.
*Our events are often photographed and filmed so we can share the fun with our community. If you don’t want to be on camera, no worries—let us know before the event.
