Scott T. Miller plays songs of life, love, and gigantic spoons

Scott T. Miller — a multi-talented and wildly imaginative writer, artist, and musician — accompanies himself on guitar and percussion for this Friends of Friends benefit performance.

Scott's songs are about daily life seen through a surrealist lens, and they tell straight-up, wacked-out surrealist stories. Scott is autistic, and many of his songs bring the world in his head into the world for everyone else. Song titles reveal his range of subjects, from the prosaic “Today I Got Out of Bed” to the more unusual “Stranded on the Planet of Gigantic Spoons.”

Scott's singing style has been called “dramatic” and his guitar playing has been described as “whippy.” His songs are roots-based in style, that is, they have a strong groove. He’ll play selections from his albums Songs of Love and Pork Chops and Gigantic Spoons. Crowd favorites include “A Lover Man Without a Family Plan” and “Hey There Medicare.”

Scott grew up in Aptos, California. He started playing guitar at age 10 and was in rock bands and blues bands for many years. He now lives in San Jose, where he got a BFA in art at San Jose State University. To see his visual art, preview his book .
