ABOUT SCOTT STRICKLAND
“It might be the best video, and song, to come out of Austin in the first half of 2022”, Peter Blackstock wrote as he praised the opening track of Scott’s debut album “L.A.” writing for one of the only two print newspapers in the “Live Music Capital of the World”. Hailing from Houston, Texas by way of Nacogdoches, Texas, the accidental musician Scott Strickland now calls Austin his home after residing in the great state’s capital for more than 9 years.
Working in retail, then teaching filmmaking at three colleges from Waco to San Antonio to make ends meet, Scott became a full time musician during the pandemic after being laid off, forcing himself get extremely creative with how he pursued his newly gifted second lease on life, music, and his new found relationship with God. This hard fledged, constantly working out, messy introspection led Scott down a path of a long lasting pursuit of the kind of music that connects truth, music, and the soul in the kind way that could only be raw, honest, vulnerable, flaws - not pretentious. Not Pretending. Not accusing. That introspection led him to strip down his traditionally Rock/Pop sound, and re-ground the arrangement with a more folk-centered approach, and getting back to basics with lush string arrangements to compliment his bright, colorful, and airy sound.
The 1500 Sessions, (recorded at 1500 Distribution Hall during the pandemic was originally purposed to help advertise the record. The work upon its completion however, became immediately clear that this session work deserved to be more than just advertised across socials - It deserved to be showcased. Also taking a very purposeful, intentional approach and only doing a few hard-ticket shows a year, Scott was venerably understanding about there being a time and a place for everything, and made the decision to delay the project for two years.
