"In the digital world, our power grid has greatly benefited from advancements in digital sensing, autonomous controls, and grid enhancing technologies. But with this rapid change comes complex and intersecting risks that are facing the sector. Sophisticated, state-sponsored cyber actors are exploiting U.S. critical infrastructure, while rising electricity demand from data centers, shifting supply chains, and geopolitical developments reshape the risk landscape.

Distinguished speaker Juan Torres will explore these challenges and opportunities at the nexus of energy and security. Drawing on NREL’s expertise in advanced grid modeling, cybersecurity, and system resilience, Torres will highlight how the DOE labs are advancing innovation to secure our nation’s energy future. He will share insight into what it means to work within the DOE lab complex, NREL’s unique research capabilities in energy systems and security, and the emerging challenges and opportunities that await the next generation of energy and cybersecurity professionals."
