About this Event

Join curator Sarah Deters and piper Pete Stewart on this exploration of some of the lesser known Scottish pipes. Learn about the origins of the bagpipe and how they came to Scotland. Hear border pipes, lowland pipes and small pipes and discover their uses in Scottish history.

Our Social Programme creates a friendly environment where everyone is welcome and all contributions are valued. Sessions start with tea and cake, and feature a range of activities inspired by our collections, building confidence, inspiring creativity and having fun. They are suitable for those who might be regular visitors, those who have always loved visiting, as well as those who have never come to our museum before.

Pete Stewart has been playing the bellows-blown bagpipes of Lowland Scotland for more than 25 years. He is the author of two books on the history of piping in the Scottish Lowlands and is the editor of Common Stock, the journal of The Lowland and Border Pipers’ Society.
