This coming Saturday, October 11 at 11:00 AM, join us for a once-in-a-lifetime conversation with NEA Jazz Master, 6x Grammy® Award winner, 2x Academy Award nominee, and cultural icon Terence Blanchard.
In celebration of Malcolm X’s centennial, Andrea Joy Pearson will facilitate a powerful dialogue with Terence Blanchard & Ananias “Markey” Montague exploring Blanchard’s Malcolm X Jazz Suite and the enduring legacy of music, culture, and justice it carries.
Blanchard is known worldwide as Spike Lee’s longtime collaborator (Malcolm X, BlacKkKlansman, Da 5 Bloods), the first Black composer to have an opera performed at the Metropolitan Opera (Fire Shut Up in My Bones), and one of the most important American composers of our time.

Celebrating Malcolm X’s centennial in partnership with Omaha Performing Arts, we will interview NEA Jazz Master, two-time Emmy® and Oscar® nominee and eight-time Grammy® winning trumpeter & composer Terence Blanchard. Blanchard will talk about his Malcolm X Jazz Suite, created for Spike Lee’s 1992 film “Malcolm X” about the human rights and civil rights icon, for which Blanchard wrote and performed the score. Blanchard will also perform his Malcolm X Jazz Suite live on Saturday, October 11 at 7:30 PM at the Holland Center.
