Join us for the latest discoveries in immunology and cancer innovation with experts Ana Esteve-Solé and Nicholas Tschernia, with ECUSA-DC.
About this Event

The Cultural and Scientific Office of the Embassy of Spain in Washington, D.C., presents Science over Coffee: Conversations on Science and Innovation, organized in collaboration with ECUSA-DC.

This edition brings together two NIH researchers to explore how immunology can illuminate connections between biological systems and inspire new approaches to treating disease.

Ana Esteve-Solé will discuss how a single genetic alteration can affect both immune function and brain development, focusing on the shared pathways that link immunity and neural development. Nicholas P. Tschernia will present new approaches to engineering T cells to recognize and engage solid tumors, a major challenge in cancer immunotherapy.

Together, their presentations show how fundamental research can deepen scientific understanding and inform future therapies.

About the scientists

Ana Esteve-Solé, PhD, is an immunologist from Barcelona. After beginning her research career at Universitat Pompeu Fabra and Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, she joined the Immunology Service at the NIH Clinical Center. Her work investigates pathways shared by immune function and brain development, including inborn errors of immunity and DNA-damage responses.

Nicholas P. Tschernia, MD, is a physician-scientist and Early Investigator in the Center for Immuno-Oncology at the National Cancer Institute’s Center for Cancer Research. His laboratory identifies targets in solid tumors and develops cellular immunotherapies, including approaches that modify patients’ T cells to fight cancer.

About ECUSA
