Learn everything you need to know about the upcoming total solar eclipse from speaker Derek Demeter, director of the Emil Buehler Planetarium at Seminole State College.
On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will occur across parts of the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Additionally, most of the United States will see a partial eclipse. Explore the science behind what makes eclipses happen and what to expect on the day of the eclipse.
Derek holds dual degrees in physics (astronomy specialization) and technical education from UCF. He is vice president of the Central Florida Astronomical Society. In addition to his passions as an astronomer and talented astrophotographer, he is also a fossil hunter and rock hound with his own impressive mineral and fossil collection. He particularly enjoys scuba diving to collect specimens.
