About this Event
🔬 Welcome to Elk Grove Science Café! Held around the world, Science Cafés are monthly conversations that make science accessible for all. While this is geared for adults, all ages are welcome!
☕ May’s topic is How Hibernators Partner With Their Gut Microbes To Reboot for Spring
🎙 About our speaker: Hannah received her PhD in Zoology from UC-Davis and carried out her dissertation research on marmot feeding ecology in the White Mountains near Bishop, CA. After additional postdoctoral training in intestinal physiology at the University of Nevada-Reno School of Medicine, she joined the faculty in the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. There she investigated how winter fasting in hibernators affects their gut and its microbiome - knowledge that may lead to novel biomedical approaches to improve health in non-hibernators (like people). Now an Emeritus Professor, Hannah lives in Sacramento and remains active in the scientific community.
Curiosity sparks. Facts illuminate. Let’s explore science together!
