The night sky is filled with incredible sights, from the familiar Moon and planets in our solar system to distant stars and galaxies far beyond our own. Join us as we explore the wonders of astronomy before heading outdoors for a Star Party in the Susan Runyan Maier Sculpture Garden!
Discover stars, take a closer look at Saturn, and discover deep-sky objects through traditional telescopes and smart telescopes that let you capture images of what you see. We’ll wrap up the evening under the stars with a cup of hot chocolate and a chance to experience the night sky in a whole new way.
Following the presentation in the Caperton Planetarium & Theater, guests will head outdoors to explore the night sky alongside members of the local astronomy community. Viewing opportunities will depend on weather conditions and visibility.
This presentation is led by our Planetarium and Science Educator, Shannon Silverman, who studies high-energy astrophysics with a particular focus on neutron stars. She is a graduate of the University of North Dakota and the University of North Florida.
Special thank you to the West Virginia Astrophotography Association for their assistance with equipment for the star party.
