Schubert Between Friends
The Master Piano Recital Series opens its 2026–27 season with an extraordinary collaboration between two of Canada's most distinguished musicians: Charles Richard-Hamelin, silver medalist and laureate of the International Chopin Piano Competition, and Andrew Wan, Concertmaster of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) since 2008.
Their program, Schubert Between Friends, is devoted entirely to the music of Franz Schubert, exploring one of history's most profoundly human musical voices through works of intimacy, lyricism, virtuosity, and emotional depth.
At the heart of the evening is Schubert's monumental Fantasy in C major, one of the masterpieces of the violin repertoire, alongside the expansive Grand Duo Sonata, the brilliant Rondeau brillant, and Charles Richard-Hamelin's acclaimed arrangement of Sei mir gegrüsst.
More than a recital, this program celebrates the spirit of musical friendship that inspired so much of Schubert's music—bringing together two artists whose own musical partnership promises performances of exceptional sensitivity, imagination, and brilliance.
