About this Event

Join us in person for Schooling Against the Pr*son: A Conversation with Dr. Marc Lamont Hill. In collaboration with current students and alumni from the New Jersey Scholarship and Transformative Education in Prisons (NJ-STEP), Dr. Marc Lamont Hill will share insights on his latest book Schooling Against the Pr*son (2026), with Harvard Education Press. A bold abolitionist manifesto, Schooling Against the Pr*son exposes the carceral logics of schooling and challenges us to redesign discipline, space, language, and imagination so education serves freedom rather than control. Dr. Hill is one of the leading intellectual voices in this country and has worked on campaigns to end the death penalty, abolish prisons, and release numerous political prisoners. He is the author or co-author of eight books and was named one of America's 100 most influential Black leaders by Ebony Magazine.
