An absolutely stellar field trip opportunity for students of Windsor-Essex is coming up at the Capitol Theatre in May.Les Misérables is the world’s longest running musical — a true modern classic based on Victor Hugo's novel and featuring one of the most memorable scores of all time. The multi-award-winning Les Misérables is as groundbreaking today as it was when it first premiered in London in 1985. It is infrequently produced by community theatre. This School Edition is edited for length but not for content, and allows school audiences to have a chance to see one of the most incredible and beloved pieces of musical theatre, performed by their own peers.
In nineteenth century France, Jean Valjean is released from years of unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a lifelong struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways. Finally, during the Paris student uprising of 1832, Javert must confront his ideals after Valjean spares his life and saves that of the student revolutionary who has captured the heart of Valjean's adopted daughter.
Epic, grand and uplifting, Les Misérables School Edition packs an emotional wallop that has thrilled audiences all over the world.
The show is presented by a cast of 43 students ages 8-18, and overflows with melodies that are already standards. It has a running time of just over two hours with an intermission. Recommended for grades 6-12, the show has some mature content and language, but has been profoundly impactful with our young performers, and we believe deeply that it is relevant and important for school students as well.
The show runs approximately 2hrs30 including an intermission. A preparatory STUDY GUIDE will be made available to schools upon request and payment of the booking deposit.
Schools may make their bookings by contacting Kristina Garswood at [email protected] Upon booking confirmation, an invoice will be sent, with a 50% deposit due immediately. Any adjustment of numbers will be required by the first week of May, and final payment due at that time. There are no refunds for students who do not attend the show.
***If you HAVE A STUDENT performing in this production, please ensure that you are booking the date they perform in their lead role, if applicable. The show is double-casted, and alternating weeks will have different students in lead roles***
