Join Steam Incorporated this School Holidays, as we invite you onboard our heritage train whilst we travel around Wellington! Offering a variety of experiences for all, behind steam and diesel motive power, travelling in heritage carriages – some being over 100 years old! Venture through the Kapiti Coast, explore the wonders of Wellington or sprint through the suburbs of the Hutt Valley! After a quick cruise up the coast with the family? This is for you!
Sit back and relax on this express service north from the bustle of Wellington to the beaches of Paekakariki, including the scenic run along the Paekakariki Escarpment on the Kapiti Coast. In our run between Pukerua Bay and Paekakariki, we pass through 6 short tunnels, the shortest of which is only 59 metres! A section of railway line with origins dating back to 1886. A scenic afternoon train journey for the whole family, steam along the coast onboard our heritage train with our friendly team!
Valley Steam Supreme
Jump onboard our heritage train at Wellington and head up the Hutt Valley line! Relax at your seat as we skirt the harbour between Ngauranga and Petone before cutting in through the valley and heading through the suburbs of both Lower & Upper Hutt. At Upper Hutt, our train drivers change ends, and our Da class diesel electric will haul us back into Wellington, stepping off the train at Platform 9. A great opportunity to come out with the family and step back in time onboard our heritage train!
Capital City Steam
Join the train at either Paekakariki or Upper Hutt, and venture into the Capital City and explore! Make a day of it – bring the family into town on the train, where you’ll have 2 hours to grab a bite down the golden mile, visit the Beehive, or take a stroll down the waterfront, before jumping on the train back home.
Valley ‘n’ Coast – Package Deal
Race through the valley, and navigate the coast, all in one! A special package deal will see you traverse 143km of the Wellington suburban system, now only populated by modern day electric multiple units. Have an evening under the stars with this special evening steam experience between Wellington & Kapiti! Relive the days of evening express trains, once a common sight on the NZ rail network. Join Steam Incorporated’s heritage train as we weave through the outer suburbs and traverse the coastline between Pukerua Bay & Paekakariki. Bring your friends or family, grab a drink and some small bites from the bar and watch the night sky go by as we traverse the trunk. Relive the days of a bygone era, with the steam express trains that used to sail through the countryside as the evening fell. This is one, not to be missed!
