Level: Novice / Intermediate Rider: Weather permitting, the class will be outdoors as much as possible, and will include riders of mixed riding ability. To accommodate the cold temperatures and potential snow, we will have the option to be indoors exploring bicycles in a fun and educational way. There is a lot we can connect with the world around us through bicycles.

Outdoors (weather permitting): Novice / Intermediate Rider: Our focus during this camp is to have fun and to further develop the necessary skills that children need when riding. We have a variety of drills and courses along with adaptive techniques that build excellent handling and control of the bicycle. Having situational awareness and control are the primary safety mechanisms to prevent accidents. The class will operate in a safe, enclosed parking lot as a learning environment, so children can practice a wide range of skills safely based on the child's individual abilities. It’s exciting to see the children’s mileage throughout the camp, as some children ride further than 20 miles during one class! Riding and navigating around other riders on closed courses increases teamwork, control, handling, and awareness. These skills are necessary to ride in the real world.
Your child may or may not be ready to move up to the next level of Pedaling Minds classes after completing this one-day class, but we do encourage you to sign up for a future multi-day camp where they will have the opportunity to go ride!
Indoors: Beyond riding, we will have hands-on educational stations that tap into the creative young mind to learn how our helmets actually work, to power lights by bicycle to understand why it’s important to turn those lights off when they leave their rooms. The children will be able to experience the following:
Learning the name and function of bike parts
Using real tools to take a bike apart and put it back together
Helmet safety: experimenting with eggs to demonstrate the impact of a crash
Changing a flat and replacing fallen chains
Gyro effects of the wheel and why it's not simply balance riding a bicycle
Experimenting with different lighting technologies and powering them by bicycle to understand energy conservation
