Join us for an engaging walking tour celebrating the unconventional life of local cookbook author, Edna Staebler!
About this Event

Edna Staebler has long been a familiar name in kitchens across Waterloo Region and beyond. Celebrated for her bestselling cookbooks, especially Schmecks Appeal, she shared not just recipes but the rich traditions and stories of Mennonite and local food culture with readers across Canada. Born on January 15, 1906, in Berlin, Ontario—now Kitchener—Edna was raised in a tight-knit neighbourhood that nurtured her deep appreciation for community, conversation, and good cooking. This walking tour traces her early years and first steps into married life, guiding you through the streets that shaped her voice—and uncovering a past with a few more surprising flavours than you might expect. After the tour come back to Schneider Haus for some Edna Staebler inspired refreshments.
