Join SCAD alum William Glaser Wilson (B.F.A., photography, 2017) and Tessa Perutz for two artist talks, presented as part of SCAD deFINE ART 2025. Speaking on his exhibition Spirit Sanctuary, Wilson will expand on themes of the passage of time, family, and memory explored in his highly expressive, boldly colored paintings. Perutz, who helms the bespoke textile printing company Massif Central, will discuss diverse approaches to translating art into fashion, as demonstrated in the exhibition Vera & Friends: Artist Scarves by Vera Neumann and Massif Central. This event is free and open to the public and presented as part of SCAD deFINE ART 2025.
About the artists
In his practice, William Glaser Wilson (b. 1994, Yonkers, N.Y.; lives and works in the Adirondacks, N.Y.) uses photography, sculpture, and painting to portray collective struggles and pleasures through constructed environments. Wilson has shown his work in solo and two-person exhibitions at CCAN Art Gallery at Trinity College, Hartford, Conn., and the Savannah Cultural Arts Center, Ga., among others. His work was included in the group exhibition Self-Adjacent, which traveled to venues including the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, Va.; Massey Klein Gallery, New York; and the Kennedy Museum of Art, Athens, Ohio. He has participated in residencies including the SCAD Alumni Atelier.
Tessa Perutz (b. 1988, Chicago; lives and works in New York) received her B.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has exhibited in the U.S. and U.K. in various solo, two-person, and group exhibitions at venues including Jack Hanley Gallery, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit; Atlanta Contemporary; Brooklyn Academy of Music; and Appointment Only, Los Angeles. In addition to her art practice, Perutz helms the New York-based company Massif Central, established in 2013, which produces silk and silk-blend scarves by contemporary artists. Interested in the trajectory of traditional French silk scarf-making, Massif Central is named after the region in France where the art form originated. Massif Central partners with a diverse group of artists to create a dynamic and distinct collection of high-end silk artworks, devoted to the pursuit of the individual artist’s vision. Each artist’s design is produced in an edition of 50, 100, 150, or 500 and executed in both classic and modern sizes with handsewn hems and hand-numbered labels. Massif Central’s mission continues to grow from an interest in blurring the lines between modern design, timeless fashion, and contemporary art-making methodologies.
