“Harvest Moon Swing Dance!” The Swing and Ballroom Dance Club at UCSB is hosting a FREE “Swing Dance,” Featuring "Rob Rio and his Revolvers” Band! on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at the UCSB Student Resource Building, located on Ocean Road. Use parking lot 22. FREE Swing Dance Lesson 7:00 pm-8 pm. Band plays 8 pm-11 pm. This event is FREE for everyone, UCSB Students, Staff, Faculty, and the Public. Open to all levels of dancers! Large wooden dance floor. Bring your friends for a great night of swing dancing! The Band is an outstanding Boogie Woogie swing band!We will have great Fall decorations!! Light refreshments will be provided.
We will have special performances during the Band break!
We will have a Photo Booth for those special photos with your friends!
No dance partners are needed. All ages are OK and all levels are welcome. Don’t miss out on this fun night of dancing!
Rob Rio:
Known by some as the "Boss of the Boogie", pianoman/vocalist ROB RIO plays the boogie-woogie and jump blues of the 40's and 50's with a virtuosity and elan that has excited audiences around the world for more than 35 years. RIO was inducted into the Boogie Woogie Hall Of Fame in 2008. He has appeared with many of the original blues greats, such as Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, James Cotton, Charles Brown, Joe Cocker, Paul Butterfield and many more, and has recorded with Mick Jagger, Canned Heat, Billy Boy Arnold, William Clarke, Coco Montoya, Finis Tasby, Walter Trout, Mud Morganfield, Phillip Walker, Jody Williams, among others. RIO continues to perform.
Born and raised in the Bronx, N.Y., Rio now resides in Los Angeles and continues to write, record, and perform at festivals, events and clubs at home and on the road nationally and internationally. He has been a favorite attraction throughout the Southland for the last 30 years, either as a solo performer or with his band, The Revolvers. His main influences include Otis Spann, Memphis Slim, Albert Ammons, Pete Johnson, Meade Lux Lewis, Jimmy Yancy, and Roosevelt Sykes.
How to Find It: This dance will be held in the UCSB Student Resource Building (SRB) Multipurpose Room located on Ocean Road. Easy Parking. There is a 4-level parking garage next door, in Parking Lot 22, next to the UCSB Thunderdome event center. Still $4 UCSB evening parking fee. You can find the SRB location here at:
