The Mentally Healthy Business Breakfast is South Australia’s largest event dedicated to workplace mental health, aimed at encouraging open, honest, and constructive conversations about workplace mental health, psychosocial risks, and shared responsibility.

Throughout Mental Health Month every October, the South Australian Business Chamber leads a statewide conversation on mentally healthy workplaces, culminating in this flagship event.

Keynote Speaker: Dr Joep van Agteren - CEO, Be Well Co

We are pleased to announce Dr Joep van Agteren as our keynote speaker for 2026. Joep is the CEO of Be Well Co, a social enterprise focused on the promotion of mental health and wellbeing in Australia.
Joep has a PhD in psychology and is an affiliate senior lecturer at Adelaide University, and is a globally recognised expert on mental wellbeing, having contributed to a range of foundational scientific studies, including the development of a recent taxonomy of mental wellbeing. He specialises in translating this scientific research into practical solutions that help people improve the way they feel and behave.
At Be Well Co, he oversees the development of its training and educational solutions and the wider company strategy, while actively working with workplaces, NGOs and government around Australia to implement mental health and wellbeing solutions on the ground.

Thilan Legierse - CEO, TLC Leadership Group

Drawing on lessons from courtrooms, war zones and boardrooms, Thilan Legierse helps leaders turn conflict into clarity, tension into trust, and difficult conversations into catalysts for change.

A former lawyer and United Nations human rights and war crimes professional, Thilan spent 12 years working across Switzerland, Cambodia, Bosnia and The Hague before building a global career as a leadership adviser, executive coach, mediator and speaker. She has coached more than 3,000 leaders, resolved more than 100 workplace conflicts and is the author of the Amazon bestselling book Dealing with Conflict at Work.
Tom Cleghorn - Head of Organisational Development, Northline

Tom Cleghorn leads leadership, capability and organisational development initiatives across a national transport and logistics business. His experience includes leadership-focused roles with global mining organisations, working across Australia and internationally in Africa, Laos and China.

Tom is particularly interested in the role leaders play in creating psychologically safe, healthy and high-performing workplaces. He is passionate about building leadership capability that helps organisations navigate complexity, support their people and deliver sustainable performance.

Richard Sheppy - CEO, Fat Farmers Rural Health Initiative

Richard Sheppy is a passionate advocate for stronger, healthier rural communities. Living in South Australia's Riverland with his wife Jo, and father to two adult sons, Richard brings lived experience of both physical and mental health challenges to his work.

His leadership is grounded in the belief that lasting change starts at the grassroots level, where local people support one another through connection, shared experience and community action. Drawing on his agricultural background and deep understanding of regional Australia, Richard works alongside volunteer-led groups, partners and communities to improve health outcomes, build resilience and create opportunities for rural Australians to live healthier, more connected lives.
