Sazerac Night: One Distillery, Four Mash Bills
About this Event
Poured side by side, in order, to explore how each grain shapes the glass:
- Mash Bill #1: Buffalo TraceThe Low-Rye Baseline: The baseline everything else gets measured against. Notes of rich caramel, brown sugar, and a little baking spice.
- Mash Bill #2: Elmer T. LeeThe High-Rye Punch: Same distillery, but with more rye in the recipe. Brighter and fruitier, with real pepper on the finish. Named after the man who invented the modern single barrel.
- Wheated Mash: W.L. Weller Special ReserveThe Wheater: Take the rye out, put wheat in, and the whole thing softens. Rounder, sweeter, with far less bite. This is the recipe that made Pappy famous.
- Rye Mash: Sazerac RyeThe High-Rye Shift: Now rye leads instead of corn. Herbal, peppery, dry, and the backbone of the oldest cocktail in America.
