VERSE: JEREMIAH 20:9
"Then I said, 'I will not make mention of Him, nor speak anymore in His name.' But His word was in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, and I could not.
This verse is part of a lament by the prophet Jeremiah, who was facing intense persecution, ridicule, and suffering for speaking God's word. He was tired of the opposition and felt like giving up his prophetic duties. He internally decided to stop prophesying and not mention the name of the Lord.
However, he found that he could not. The message of God was so powerful within him that it felt like a burning fire trapped inside his very being, specifically his bones. This fire was an irresistible force, compelling him to continue speaking God's word despite the immense pain and hardship it caused him. He was physically and emotionally exhausted from trying to suppress the message, and he simply could not hold it back.
The verse illustrates the irresistible and consuming nature of God's call on a person's life, showing that for Jeremiah, speaking God's truth was not an option but a compulsion.
