Remix Dance Lab

On the second Sunday of each month, we’ll gather and experiment with rotating dance styles and concepts. In an intimate speakeasy context, we’ll nerd out about dance and get curious about the ways we are more alike than we are different. Lofty aspirations inside a cozy, lowkey container that’s really about who shows up and what they want to bring.
Arrive from 7:30-8pm, with doors closing at 8pm so we can begin together. Knock on the kitchen door of the Art Table on the 2nd floor of the OddFellow Building and provide the password given when you purchase tickets.
Tickets are $25 and include a drink ticket or $15 credit for yum yum from the bar.
Each month will have a unique rotating emphasis on a different dance style or dance concept. We’ll take a guided practica together from 8-9pm with rotating guest instructors, and then dance to music tailored to that topic, blending in other influences as the night progresses.

Remix is inspired by this idea of a piece of art that has been altered from its original state by adding, removing or changing components. It’s new, it inspires fresh creation, and it still retains the genetic code of its lineage. It’s the embodiment of call-and-response and the oral tradition of dance.
I’ve had a dream of making a space that’s deeply aligned with the ballroom’s mission of to champion dance education at all levels, foster respect, and integrate our intersectional dance histories. We want to embrace the beautiful chaos and primordial nature of welcoming equal cohorts of different dance communities into a space to create new community together.
I’m interested in inspiring excellence while fervently welcoming beginners and newcomers. I want to celebrate stumbling and failing better, under the shared purpose of continually honing our craft. I am genuinely excited to walk into a room like this and be awed and intimidated by skill and artistry that is wildly unlike my own, and then figure out how to make some magic together.
This is intentionally not an event of a specific social partner dance style, but rather an event that welcomes dancers of a shared philosophy, who are looking for a laboratory to play inside.
